Testing
Cardiff PAT Test provides a premium portable appliance testing service using only the highest specification dedicated computerised portable appliance testers with in-built asset management and test record storage by Seaward Electronics. The testers are used in conjunction with Seawards top of the range PATGuard Elite 2 software for PAT testing and asset management.
This combination of the highest specification test equipment and software plus our hard wearing vinyl labelling system, allows us to provide our clients with a high quality testing service, complete asset management, comprehensive reporting and extensive database record keeping.
Our technicians are able to carry out testing on all your portable electrical appliances including; but not limited to:
- Standard appliances with a 230 Volt 13 Amp plug
- Industrial appliances with 110 Volt 16 Amp to 415 Volt 32 Amp 3 Phase plugs
- Industrial stage lighting with IEC connection, 230 Volt 5 Amp and 230 Volt 15 Amp plugs
- Dedicated Microwave Leakage Testing to BS EN 60335
- Sensitive appliances such as file servers and laboratory equipment fitted with UPS Server plugs and domino connections
All of our portable appliance tests are carried out to the exacting high standards as set out in the IEE / IET Code of Practice for "In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Appliances", with the quality of our testing, equipment calibration, record keeping and asset reporting system regularly inspected and approved by the NIC EIC.
Unlike many other portable appliance test companies that simply leave failed / damaged appliances for the client to rectify, Cardiff PAT Test carries a wide range of spares that enables us to provide a repair and retest service for the majority of power tools and workshop equipment, thus saving our clients additional expensive repair / replacement bills.
Labels
Over the many years that we have carried out PAT testing, we have, and still continue to encounter poor quality, badly applied labels that very often do not comply with or contain the legally required information, eg; retest date, or legible asset number etc . Also, we regularly find labels that are fixed to the backs of moulded plugs, which due to the shape and material of the plug, rarely provides adequate space or adhesion and which invariably causes the label to simply curl up and fall off.
It also restricts air flow and heat loss through the plug safety ventilation hole which is covered over by the label.
With these problems in mind, Cardiff PAT Test designed our own unique personalised label and barcoding system which are made from a hard wearing thin vinyl material that is virtually indestructible, completely waterproof, chemical and oil resistant and are not faded by UV light.
Any detachable cables or leads that are tested will have a custom designed thin flexible plastic tag fixed with a strong cable tie near the plug, the PAT labels will then be applied to the plastic tag.
As we print our own full colour labels they can be customised by including your company logo using any number of colours. For example your company may use a specific colour for your stationary and you want the PAT PASS label to match that colour or perhaps as a visual expiry date identifier.
Labels are always applied neatly and in a sensible location where they can be easily found but do not look unsightly or out of place. In certain circumstances we will discuss the location of the labels with the client so that we can place them in a suitable tamper resistant location for businesses such as schools, universities and call centres where they are often peeled off.

Upon completion of testing Cardiff PAT Test provides a high quality book bound fully comprehensive asset report containing all required information, including:
